Though typically a place to post school information, classroom bulletin boards can be a dynamic part of classroom learning. The boards are designed to be easily updated, rearranged, and changed, which makes them convenient for large, visual activities. It takes time to create activities that utilize the bulletin board, but the reward is a student-centered addition to lessons that provides student-centered activities.

Bulletin Boards That Assist Learning

Creating a student-centered board that assists learning requires planning and creation time by the teacher. These boards provide information for students to use directly, add to, or modify throughout a lesson.

An example of a bulletin board created to be used directly is a diagram of the water cycle. The teacher would display the cycle, including descriptions and labels, and students would either sketch it into their notebooks or fill in the blanks on a worksheet. The descriptions and labels could later be removed to promote memorization.
