As our modern world develops and technology becomes more complex, the need for technical writers and the number of tech writer jobs will keep growing.

Education of Technical Writers

Technical writers come from a wide variety of backgrounds. While the large majority have undergraduate and/or advanced degrees in English, communications or in a technical field, some older technical writers learned the technology on the job as their writing skills were noted in another position and they moved over to technical writing. A number of universities and community colleges also now offer degree programs and certificates in technical writing or technical communications, and many employers are creating formal educational requirements for tech writers.
